BLACK CHELSEA BOOTS

UNDERSTATED AND ASSERTIVE BOOTS

These smooth black leather Chelsea boots are designed for the man who wants to extend the line of a suit without compromising its formality. Their tone-on-tone elasticated panel, Goodyear welt construction and sole fitted with a non-slip tread make this a pair of great simplicity, equally at home tucked into the turn-ups of a suit as on wet cobblestones in winter.

In summary,

Black smooth-leather Chelsea boots, Goodyear-welted so they can be resoled, with a black sole reinforced with a shank and a non-slip heel cap. The upper opens on either side with a black elasticated band, ensuring a snug fit without any laces.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE BOOTS

Smooth black leather

The black leather of the boots has a smooth, unadorned finish, retaining a subtle sheen that develops a patina gently with polish. This deep black echoes that of the double-breasted coat and its buttons, giving the outfit a dark, uniform base. We recommend wearing them under the suit’s striped trousers, whose 5 cm turn-up falls just over the boot shaft.

The side elastic panels

Designed in the mid-19th century by Queen Victoria’s bootmaker, the Chelsea boot is recognisable by its two elasticated panels, which allow it to be slipped on without laces. Here, the black elastic blends into the leather and maintains a perfectly clean line. It goes just as well with a suit as it does with grey flannel trousers.

The sole and shank

The black sole echoes the understated style of the upper and remains almost invisible beneath trousers. It is reinforced with a shank – a piece inserted beneath the arch of the foot to support the foot and maintain the shoe’s shape – and a non-slip sole cap that ensures good grip on wet pavements in rainy weather.

The Goodyear welt

The Goodyear welt construction joins the upper to the sole using a welt – a thin strip of leather stitched all the way round the shoe – without the use of glue. This construction makes the shoe more robust and waterproof, and, above all, allows it to be resoled several times without damaging the leather. If looked after properly, your boots will last you for many winters to come.
