A style reference

The release of the first Kingsman contributed to the resurgence of the double-breasted jacket, so we’re taking advantage of the release of the second Kingsman – The Golden Circle to take a look back at the excellent work of Arianne Phillips and the very elegant style of the Kingsman agents.

“A suit is the modern gentleman’s armour. And the Kingsman agents are the new knights.”

The suit

The Kingsman suit of choice is the 6×2 button double-breasted suit. The cut of a suit must always be perfect, and this is especially true in the case of a double-breasted suit, as the latter is unforgiving, and insufficient shaping or too great a length will soon cramp the silhouette.

The fabrics used are rather heavy wools, a far cry from the Italian spirit, giving a more structured silhouette. To combat the London chill, why not opt for a lightweight flannel?

Stripes are de rigueur, with a slight preference for pinstripe. Depending on your silhouette, however, be careful not to wear too broad a stripe – there’s no need to fall into caricature.

The shirt

A beautiful white shirt in freshly ironed royal oxford will be perfect, with a slightly flared collar to accommodate a generous tie knot.

The tie

Opt for an attractive, sober club tie combining blue and red. Be careful with the size of the stripes: they shouldn’t match too closely with those of the suit. The club stripe is, of course, English, running from the heart down to the right.

“Oxfords, not brogues.”

Shoes

Our only regret is the lack of risk-taking when it comes to footwear. A Kingsman sticks to the old adage “No brown in town” and therefore favors black richelieux, generally with straight toes.

The pocket square

A simple white pocket square that matches the shirt and is folded square remains an essential in every man’s wardrobe.

Accessories

Every self-respecting secret agent has a range of accessories packed with all kinds of gadgets. Unfortunately, reality is here to call us back to reason, and we’ll have to make do with pretty but simple accessories, which is already a good thing.

The frames are made of black acetate. Cutler and Gross supplied the models for the film.

The umbrellas are sturdy, with a wooden shaft rather than retractable plastic. Swaine Adeney Brigg supplied the models for the film.

We encourage you to take inspiration from the film’s outfits, which once again promise to be one of the most stylish films of the year. As always, however, be careful not to fall into mere copying, but always to infuse your personal style, which I think is the nicest tribute to the visual universe developed by the films.
